What is the Project?
The project is a collaborative, public-private effort to revitalize one side of a single Kershaw Street block. Existing homes will be refurbished, and new homes of modest price and in the architectural style of existing Schofield neighborhood homes will be built to infill the vacant lots.
How the Project Works?
A joint advisory board will be set up to ensure that each stage of the project is appropriate to the style and era of existing homes in the neighborhood. Funds will be administered through the Preservation Foundation of Aiken. The City funds will act as a revolving fund to build and refurbish, sell and reinvest. Homes should be suitably priced for teachers, police officers, veterans, tradesmen, business owners, young couples, etc. Owners will agree to maintain and upkeep the units. Home ownership and community upkeep to be agreed-upon.
